Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit

In our 12-week message series, “Inside Out—A Deeper Look at Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount”, we begin to study what is commonly called, The Beatitudes. These “blessings” show us how to live in God’s kingdom which will bring true life or “happiness”. We’ll find that “happiness” is found in unexpected ways. In Matthew 5:3, Jesus says the “poor in spirit” are blessed. Those who are broken before God are blessed because “the kingdom of heaven is theirs”. This definitely sounds upside down! Poor in spirit is rich in happiness.
