God Blesses the Persecuted

In Matthew 5:10-12, Jesus speaks a difficult truth in his final beatitude – persecution awaits His followers. Disciples of Jesus should expect to be insulted and slandered. It happened to Jesus and the prophets who came before Him, so it will happen to those who follow Jesus. Surprisingly, Jesus says our response to this should be rejoicing! We should be glad! How can the persecuted be blessed? Because earthly persecution produces a heavenly prize.
