Not of This World

When we open Daniel 5, we suddenly see a new king at center stage. God gives King Belshazzar a message through writing on a wall. No one can interpret the message except for Daniel, and the message is one of judgment for Belshazzar. In the book of Daniel, God continually reveals that all kings and empires are subject to God Most High. God rules over all the nations and will hold every ruler accountable. We also see the heartbreak of someone who is unresponsive to God. God calls all people to leave their ways and be reconciled to Him. God has everyone’s life in His hands and calls all of us to respond to Him. Daniel continually put his hope in the eternal, not on things of this world. Living with eternal hope triumphs over living in earthly despair.
